Habibti's Fashion Pick-Me-Up

Hello There, Fashionistas!

Been in a fashion rut lately?
It's easy to fall into...

Maybe all the trends you loved are playing out now?
Or maybe you just want to do something new with your style?

Try a different take on something you like -
a new spin on a staple item in your wardrobe.

Take shoes, for instance.
Your shoes don't have to be boring!
What kind of shoes do you like?
Perhaps find a pair with a really unique twist!

My latest fashion pick-me-up is lace-up heels!

Brian Atwood

I recently came across a very inspiring photo of the late Tejano singer, Selena (shown above, on right), looking gorgeous in a pair of black lace-up heels.
Then, it hit me - why aren't women still rocking these?

I'm sure some of us are (somewhere), but this fashion item is so underrated!
I believe many fashionistas are a bit intimidated by this shoe...
and, when taken to the extreme, it can be a little frightening.

But don't make it a scary shoe!
In its simplest form, it's incredibly cute and easy to pare down.
In addition to the photo of Selena that inspired my love for these shoes,
I've included a modern take on an outfit with the shoe (left of Selena photo; from net-a-porter)
and two sassy twists (top photo, also from net-a-porter; bottom photo, from facebook).

Remember, don't be intimidated by fashion!
Trends and styles are inspired by YOU!
So, don't be afraid to express your unique creativity and have fun with your fashion!

What element of your wardrobe are you going to spice up?

Personal Update

Hello Everybody!

I hope everyone is well ♥.
I've been in a bit of a transitional state...

As of right now,
I'm working at a retail outlet
and trying to readjust to life in my hometown,
post-college graduation.

I'm not going to lie --- it's been rough.
It's still rough.
It's a very odd feeling - not knowing what to do next.
And the economy isn't very forgiving right now,
so jobs are scarce (even if you're qualified).

Which is why we have to fight.
All of us.
Anyone with a dream.
Anyone who won't settle for whatever is left over.

We have to fight for what we love.
And it's going to be hard, but...

Imagine how life would be if you accepted everything that was handed to you.

I'm seeking to make an adjustment.
To refocus on what I want in life,
now that I finally get to choose and my accomplishments aren't fueled by a letter-grade.

Anyway ♥.
I'm still testing out new products/trends whenever I get a chance.

This is what I've been into as of late:

  1. Fifi Lapin - how adorable! A fashionable bunny with a background story! I love it ♥. I really want to get my hands on her book. It's like a high fashion lookbook, but the outfits are easy to emulate using similar silhouettes from different brands.
  2. Jean Jackets - on my way to work, I passed the cutest studded jean jacket in Forever 21 and I just had to have it! The way I feel about jean jackets is similar to the way some women feel about little black dresses or trench coats - it's an item no woman should be without. So add some studs and I'm in!
  3. Wedge Booties - a trend that I'm so thankful for (and definitely will add to my updated Fashion Staples list!). Wedge booties add a funky edge to any outfit and come in many colors/fabrics. It never ceases to amaze me how designers can put such creative spins on these shoes. In case any of you are interested in rocking some wedge booties, a friend of mine is selling a very unique pair here.

But on a random note,
someone posted part of Kaskade's set from the Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas, so I listened to it (mostly because everyone kept talking about it ♥).

I was instantly hooked!
I don't know much about EDC...
Has anyone reading ever been before?
Fill me in! How was it ♥?

Also, keep me posted if you've been trying any of the products I've listed!
I'm excited to hear your results!

Favorite Products

Hello Everybody!

Today was an interesting one.
A short work day, but chock-full of meditation (on many facets of life).

As the day went on, I thought about a few products that have made my life so much easier
(or simply, more pleasant ♥).

And the best part is - you don't need bucket loads of cash to afford them!

My Favorite Products

Shea Moisture: 100% Organic Shea Butter - the weather in my hometown has been killing my skin. Humid and rainy one day, dry and windy the next... And, after the added effects from other cosmetic products (plus, the effects certain foods have), my skin is sometimes left dry and itchy. Shea Moisture's Organic Shea Butter has worked wonders for me. It's helped even out my skin tone, moisturize and calm my dry skin. Plus, it has many additional uses as well... I highly recommend it for all skin types!

Maybelline: Baby Lips - I've been experimenting with lip balms for a while now. I can never seem to find one that works for me (and if I do find one, it costs an arm and a leg). I bought this lip balm a few days ago and immediately fell in love with it. I noticed the difference in my lips the first time I used it. It went on smoothly and evenly, filled in all lines, and made my lips so soft. Effects lasted hours after application. It smells really nice, comes in different shades and contains SPF 20. And the cost goes easy on your wallet!

Escada: Moon Sparkle - this fragrance is at the highest end of this product list, financially speaking. But don't scroll away just yet! It's totally worth it! I've had this perfume for months and months now. It really goes a long way. And the smell (fruity high notes such as strawberry and raspberry, as well as floral middle notes consisting of freesia, jasmine and rose) is sweet, soft and distinct. Like I said, completely worth it. Test it out the next time you're at a fragrance store!

Leave a comment and let me know how you like these products!

I'm always looking for new products to add to my regiments...
What products are you loving right now?

Intro & Wish List

Hello Fellow Bloggers (or blog readers ♥)!

I'm so excited to finally start blogging!

A little background info on me -
I am a fashion student and beauty enthusiast.
I've been aware of my interest in fashion since I was a kid.
However, I became intrigued with beauty when realizing one key fact:

Everyone is beautiful. Everyone. But it's up to us, individually,
to recognize the beauty in ourselves. To embrace it and celebrate it.

Only when we have done that, can we truly appreciate the beauty in others.
So stop being the first to point out that person's flawless smile or that person's amazing hair,
and start recognizing the beautiful, unique qualities in yourself ♥.
(Not that it's wrong to compliment others, but it's important not to cripple your self-esteem with how frequently you think of another person's traits and how infrequently you think of your own...)

I'm still a beginner when it comes to beauty products, so I'll mostly be posting my opinions
and reviews (based on personal results with a product).
As far as fashion, I'll post the piece(s)/runway shows that grab my interest.

To give you a better idea of what I'll be blogging about for the most part,
I've decided to share my wish list!
Ready?

Habibti's Wish List

  1. Ahava Mud Mask - this mud mask has received rave reviews (most recently, from pop star, Kat Deluna). Mostly, I stick to facial cleansers, moisturizers and sunscreen, so a mud mask regiment would be a new experience. Experts advise that mud masks should be used no more than twice a week. Also, the mask is usually applied after cleaning the face. (Be sure to read any instructions on any product you use, just to be on the safe side!)
  2. Flatforms - one of my favorite beauty bloggers recently posted a picture of herself in flatforms and they are just the cutest things ever! I've never been crazy about stilettos or extremely high heels, so flatforms are the perfect medium for me. They can be found at various retailers, by many brands, and come in so many shapes, sizes, and colors.
  3. Sephora Moonshadow Baked Palette: 'In The Nude' - being fairly new to the world of beauty, I got a bit excited with the idea of playing with color combinations around my eyes. But, as with most things, beauty should start with the basics. My sister brought Sephora's 'In The Nude' palette to my beauty rescue. This eyeshadow palette provides neutral colors that look nice alongside a variety of skin tones.
  4. TIGI S-Factor Diamond Dreams Shampoo/Conditioner - After hearing so many great things about this shampoo and conditioner, I'm dying to try it myself. This blog offers a break-down of ingredients in both the shampoo and conditioner. Speaks for itself, right?
  5. Amy Winehouse for Fred Perry Hawaiian Barrel Bag - I've been a devotee of Ms. Winehouse's music since '05, so I was stoked when I found out about her fashion collaboration with Fred Perry. Unfortunately, Amy passed before she could experience the success of her fashion lines. But her collections are pure reflections of her musical and visual aesthetic. Also, royalties and fees from the collections are donated to her foundation.

So, now that I've told you about my wish list,
I want to hear what's on YOURS!

Leave me a message in the comment section and tell me what you'd like your next buy to be!

xoxo Habibti
