New Years Party Tips

Hello All~!

It's almost that time again - celebration time!
Can't believe we're only a couple days away from a new year...
have you gotten your party outfit ideas together?

If not, don't fret!
We still have a little time,
so allow me to make a few suggestions...

1. Statement Shoes

(Fendi Spring 14 RTW, images courtesy of style.com)

You've seen them before -
the shoes that make you stop dead in your tracks and stare in amazement.
Shoes such as these are considered to be a statement piece -
the main focus (and usually, most intricate element) of an outfit.

What I like most about statement shoes is that you don't have to overdo it!

*Habibti's Tip - Pick a color that is also reflected in your statement shoes.
Pair the shoes with a simple dress or top and bottom that also reflect that color.
If the 'statement' of the shoes is more structural than colorful, choose neutral colors.
If you're going to choose patterned clothing, go for a minimal, subdued pattern.
Keep the outfit tapered, comfortable, and classic;
same goes for the make-up and the [optional] jewelry - natural, soft, and classy.
Don't worry about matching! Keep it simple, fun, and chic!

2. Rose Gold Accents

Ladies, rose gold was a frequently featured color this year.

After all, why not?
It's classy, feminine, and unexpected.

It's so easy to add a little hint of a warm, rose-tinted gold accent to your outfit!

*Habibti's Tip - Now, don't get me wrong,
I'm all for a rose gold dress with complimenting accessories and such,
but if you just want a bit of the color here and there,
you may just want to add in rose gold accessories.
My favorites? Seychelles's Thyme Metallic Wedges (there's a bit of black in these shoes to cool it down, in case the rose gold is too bright for your outfit).
And you guys know I'm a Bare Minerals girl ♥.
Try layering a bit of Bare Minerals's Rise Up lipstick with either a warm rose colored lipliner, lipgloss or even another lipstick (like the feel of the Rise Up lipstick? Try layering with Get Ready.)

3. Bright Eyes

And no, I don't mean 'bright' as in neon, 80's eyes (not that the look didn't have its time and place),
but 'bright' as in awake, luminous, gorgeous eyes.

You're going to a party or some kind of shindig, right?
You don't want to look as if you're lacking sleep from working crazy hours during the holiday season
(coughcough, not pointing any fingers...)

*Habibti's Tip - There are plennnnty of avenues you can explore to achieve this look.
My favorite right now is the VS Pro Magic FX Quad from none other than Victoria's Secret.
The pigments are light enough to not be overpowering in hue,
yet shimmery and with a hint of each color.
Blend a little into the corners of your lids or all over the lid, if you like.
Be sure to play around with the shadows first, until you find the look you like best.
(Major tip - when doing a full face of make-up, do your eyes first! If you make a mistake, you can clean it up without wiping away foundation, blush, bronzer, etc.)

Remember, you don't have to spend hundreds of dollars for an outfit that you may only wear once.
Check your closet! What about that sparkly dress you bought on sale and never wore?
There are plenty of ways to put together a show-stopping outfit,
so don't limit yourself!

Unsure or just want a second opinion?
Feel free to comment below!

I can't wait to hear about your perfect New Years outfit!

October Favorites

Hello Everyone!

Can you believe it's autumn already?
(Goodness, I feel like this year just started
and we're already a few months away from 2014...)

This is one of my favorite times of the year ---
not just because of the gorgeous weather
(although that is a good enough reason, lol),
but also because we can bring out the knits
and the fall colors!

Autumn is in full swing and I'm bringing out the faves!

Talk That Talk by RiRi Hearts M.A.C. (2013 Fall Collection)

By now, I'm sure you guys have heard about Rihanna's previous collaboration with M.A.C. this past summer (with RiRi Woo - the singer's personal take on the fan favorite lipstick, Ruby Woo - being one of the biggest hits). Well, the new fall collection hit M.A.C. stores about a week ago and, I must confess, the Talk That Talk lipstick has successfully wooed me! It is a matte, deep plum color with a surprisingly warm undertone. And although the depth of color seems daunting, believe me --- it looks a lot darker than it wears!
*Unfortunately, it is currently sold out, but if you're feeling the dark plum color, try this lippy or this one.

Argan Oil Hair Mask by HerStyler

If you're like me, even something as simple as a change in weather can be brutal on your hair. Recently, a friend introduced me to the best hair mask I have ever used! I've tried a lot of hair products that claimed to contain argan oil and be good for hair, but none of them managed to tame my wild curls. With this mask, I saw the results instantly. Now, for the disclaimer - it's not cheap. But it comes in a large size, not much is needed, and results are so worth it. My hair was soft, smooth, untangled and manageable - not to mention, I noticed a lot less breakage!

Bow Shoulder Bag by RED Valentino

Ok, so I don't actually own this bag, but a girl can dream! I've found that my style tends to get a bit more neutral and earthy in tone during the fall season, so I like to add some girly flair with a feminine bag. A bow bag is one of many examples of how to mix in a touch of girliness without having a completely frilly outfit. While this designer bag is in the higher price range, a bag like this super cute one would also do the trick!

Fur Stripe Gilet by Unreal Fur

The ever-changing reaction to the fur trend never ceases to amaze me. One day it's "in", the next day it's cast into the deep abyss of unstylishness. Here's my verdict - don't fear the fur! Whether you favor a simple, classic fur or an edgier, patterned fur like the one pictured above, don't be afraid to step out of the box. For example, you can easily insert a little rock 'n' roll or 1940s Hollywood glam into your look - it all depends on what you choose. My personal choice? This faux fur gilet by Unreal Fur. However, I've also noticed pretty fur gilets and mini capes in stores like XXI and Charlotte Russe.
*Vintage furs are fun too! Check your local thrift store or even an online vintage store!

Those are just a few of the ideas I have in mind for fall... ♥

But no matter what ideas others may have,
remember to step out of the box and have fun with your style!
Try new things, go for new looks,
put different elements together and create something that is intrinsically YOU.

Habibti's Translation: Rihanna's 'Where Have You Been?'

Hello Everyone!

May has been a busy month, right?
Jam-packed with new music, movies and sources of inspiration!

Well, call me late, but recently,
I've been really into the makeup looks shown
in Rihanna's "Where Have You Been?" music video
(we have the creative ingenuity of artist, Kabuki, to thank for those looks).

If you've heard the song, but haven't seen the video yet,
the fashion and cosmetic artistry throughout the video
is executed so intricately.

There is one look in particular that really stuck out to me...

(Rihanna in "Where Have You Been?")

While the look is very high fashion,
it can be interpreted into a softer, every day look.
My interpretation includes the products shown above by Bare Minerals,
but if you already have some of the tools or products shown,
the main products are The Happy Place eyeshadow quad and the Bronzed Splendor set.
*If you are unfamiliar with certain areas of the eye when applying shadows,
please refer to this fantastic diagram featured on bstylo.

First, apply eyelid primer on your eyelids -
this prevents creasing in the eyeshadow
and promotes long-lasting color.

Next, take your crease defining brush and apply the color "Imagine"
from The Happy Place quad (color is located at top right side of quad)
from the inner to the center area of your lids.

Then, apply the color "Euphoria" (located at bottom right side of quad) from the center to the outer area of your lids.
Using the same brush, blend "Exhale" (bottom left side of quad)
down into the crease of your eyelid.
*Remember, if any color seems too bold,
you can soften it by using a lighter color.

If you would like to highlight your eyebrows,
take "Peace" (top left side of quad)
and blend directly below the eyebrow, into the top crease.

Ok, the pièce de résistance - the bronzed finish!

Using both The High Dive bronzer
and The Long Weekend luminzer duo from the Bronzed Splendor,
take the tapered fan brush and blend into three areas -
your temples, cheekbones and along the jawline.

Lastly, the Jack of All Trades lip balm in Lean On Me
is the perfect soft, nude color to complete the look!
Swipe a thin layer of this lip balm (because it is quite opaque)
across your lips.

And there you have it, friends!
My interpretation of Rihanna's fiery makeup look from the "Where Have You Been?" video!

*And please note,
these are products from the brand that I have chosen to use.
If you already have similar tools or products at home, use them ♥!

Let me know if you like this interpretation,
have any questions or comments,
or have an interpretation of your own to share!

Much love!
xoxo Habibti
