I decided to post another personal update.
The topic is rather sensitive,
but if this post helps even one person,
then I would've fulfilled my goal with it.
So, let's talk about love.
Let's talk about what it really is,
which is not the trendy word that people throw around
to describe their passing feelings for a high quality ink pen
or a multi-colored poncho on sale at a retailer.
It's interesting.
I was watching Dr. Drew's talk show and he said something that stuck with me.
He said, "People confuse intensity for love."
I can't count the number times when I thought I was head over heels in love
because the moment or the situation (or the person) was intense.
It seems silly, but think about it.
Have you ever really been in love?
What does it mean? How does it feel?
Does it feel like someone who sometimes likes you and sometimes doesn't want to be seen with you?
Is it a situation where you have to bend over backwards,
twist, pull, contort your standards and beliefs to fit into a person's life?
Is it worth it, if you do all of those things? If you compromise yourself?
Think about it like this - you only have one self.
One you.
If the one you believe you're in love with understands and values you,
you won't ever have to bargain with your virtues for a place in his/her heart.
Knowing love is the battle people face,
so don't feel like you're alone.
Intensity - touching, kissing, etc - is one thing.
And in so many cases, it doesn't add up to anything as strong or long-lasting as love.
So don't confuse it.
Save yourself the irritation.
When you have love, it is true.
There's no such thing as fake love.
And you'll know when you have it because you'll be valued.
There won't be all of these other people to compete with.
You won't have to mold yourself into anyone or anything else.
Love only asks you to be the best you that you can be.
Love only wants you to be free.
